Scott Sebastian
I love to swim in the ocean – although I am a bit of wimp about big waves, as I spent my formative aquatic years in Midwestern swimming pools. And I like to hike in the hills – although cautiously, as I have ended up in the emergency room more than once with intense allergic reactions to certain local plants. I value Laguna most for the quality of its natural environment and I am concerned most about the quality of its built environment.
I arrived in Laguna in 1982, established my own professional practice in landscape architecture here in 1986, and moved to South Laguna in 1991. I have an abiding interest is in the design and management of what I call the public realm: all of the land that we own in common, including our network of streets, rights of way, public parks, beaches, and hillsides. Having long been involved the redesign of streets, I am particularly concerned about pedestrian and bicycle safety, and I care a lot about the visual appearance of streets. I worked with the City as part of the Mobility sub-committee of the Vision 2030 effort, and I served on the City’s Environmental Committee for four years.
